Bruce’s Spruce Conservation Fund
Bruce’s Spruce Conservation Fund was created in honour of Bruce Nicolson, who passed away suddenly in 2016.
Bruce was a quiet, caring man with kind eyes and a genuine smile. He had a long career with the Alberta Provincial Government as a civil engineer. Outside of work, you would find Bruce at the cabin he built at Lac La Biche for his wife and three children. Although the city of Edmonton was Bruce’s home, he and the family escaped to the cabin every chance they could to spend some time surrounded by nature.
To say Bruce loved trees is an understatement. In the city, the Nicolson home was surrounded by mature spruce trees that also provided a home to many of our city-dwelling wildlife. When building the cabin, Bruce refused to cut down any tree that wasn’t absolutely necessary. Today, you will still find many trees within centimetres of the the cabin. Bruces’s wife, children and grand-children still cherish the cabin he built many decades ago.
Bruce’s Spruce Conservation Fund will provide ongoing support to the Edmonton & Area Land Trust, an organization that is dedicated to conserving natural areas in and around the capital region. Bruce recognized the importance of living in harmony with nature and appreciated the quiet sanctuary trees and all of nature has to offer us.
Please consider donating to Bruce’s Spruce Conservation Fund to ensure nature conservation and wildlife protection in the Edmonton area.
